Typographic I.D

Our next project is to design a logo from our partners name. I am working with Kieran O'Farrell.
He is from Kildare and his nickname is Seven or Sev for short. This started when he was in 2nd class for no particular reason. He is tall, about 6ft. He can be described as an introvert, quiet and reserved, and hard to get to know. He describes himself as lazy, sometimes messy, and always seems to be in a rush to get things done. He is an individual person and works better alone rather than in a group. Kieran is an analytical and imaginative thinker. If he didn't go to art college he would have studied architecture, but chose art because it is more fun. He likes going out and is a lot more outgoing at night when he is chatty and loud and has fun.

Manipulation

The second part of the Typography project was to make a series of expressive variations of the letter on A4 paper.

I think that the ones I did by hand were more successful than the ones I made on photoshop.

2nd Project

Our next project in Graphics was a technical exercise on text. We each got a letter and a fond, and had to experiment with it. The first part was to be done by hand and we could use the computer for the second half. I loved this project and really enjoyed doing it. My letter was N and my font was Stencil.

I did about three sheets of these, each drawing was in a 9x9cm box, I then cut out what I thought to be my best 12 and put them together. This was the first part of the brief.

Easter Work

After crit I thought about how to improve my stamps over Easter and push them that bit further. I decided that the butterfly was giving out the wrong message, it was not conveying what I wanted it to so I stripped it back and decided to work with just a butterflies wing. I wanted it to be about the fragility of nature against the destruction of our environment. I chose 4 common Irish butterflies and collaged each wing out of material that we should be recycling. I used aluminum cans, brown bags, black sacks and newspaper.

 Possible backgrounds..

I decided to go with the wood to mimic a collector with pinned butterflies.

I flipped two of these so that there would be two left and two right wings in the set.

Last Crit

These are the stamps I presented for the final crit before Easter. I wasn't happy with the results, they're missing something and the colours and typeface are all wrong.
